Youth Coach

Part-time

At Small Seeds, our mission is to support, strengthen, and sustain families in order to build strong and safe communities. The Youth Facilitator will provide facilitation and coaching through one of our two programs: the Mother-to-Son Program or Teen Discovery. This position will provide social and educational support for youth participants with the goal of yielding positive changes in character, academic achievement, lifestyle, behavior, and attitudes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and advocate for quality and developmentally appropriate workshops, trainings, resources, activities, services, and special events for children, adolescents, and teens 
  • Collaborate with parents, schools, and other community agencies and organizations to provide ongoing mentoring and coaching support for the youth in the program
  • Evaluate and monitor all youth on a regular basis to ensure programs respond to at-risk behaviors
  • Provide one-on-one engagement and group coaching to support underdeveloped skills (i.e., social and emotional skills) 
  • Maintain clear and continuous communication with youth and their mothers and guardians. 
  • Maintain all records, curriculum materials, intake information, and client and group records
  • Be able to effectively work independently as well as in group settings, in an office, and in the field
  • Conduct home, school, and community visits with participating youth (using personal vehicles; program-related mileage is reimbursed) 
  • Complete all required paperwork on a timely basis and meet necessary reporting deadlines. 
  • Evaluate the progress of all program participants (utilizing SMART Goals, progress notes and reviews) and make the necessary adjustments to ensure positive program outcomes for all participants 
  • Facilitate and attend activities and events in the school and community with program participants in order to build school and community engagement (ability to work some evenings and/or weekends required) 
  • Complete 70% of your work out in the community and 30% of your work in the office 
  • Work independently and as a team player within all programs and across the organization 
  • Attend all staff meetings and required trainings. 
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by your supervisor. 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s (preferred) or Associate’s (required) degree in social services, education, or a related field 
  • 2-3 years of experience working with elementary, middle, high school. and out-of-school-age youth, particularly youth in urban or underserved communities 
  • Knowledge of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems and community resources and networks 
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organization, listening, and interpersonal skills 
  • Knowledge of Google Forms and Docs, Allegheny County KIDS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 
  • valid driver's license, good driving record, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule with some evening and weekend hours required 
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Acts 33 & 34 and FBI Clearances (job contingent upon the submission of all three) 

Compensation and Benefits:

$15.00/hour. Small Seeds does not offer benefits for part-time staff. Small Seeds does provide reimbursement for approved expenses related to program costs.

Driver - Youth & Family Programming

Part-time

At Small Seeds, our mission is to support, strengthen, and sustain families in order to build strong and safe communities. As a driver for Small Seeds, you will be an integral part of our team, helping to get families to and from our programming using the organization van.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up and drop off participants at their homes, and transport participants to program activities utilizing organization vans
  • Load and unload materials, goods, and equipment between various destinations as assigned
  • Prepare, receive, and provide appropriate documentation for the delivery or pick-up of passengers or goods to ensure timely and accurate transportation
  • Report all vehicle maintenance in a timely fashion
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to all participants
  • Make sure proper procedures are followed for the sign-in and out of children on a daily basis
  • Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all the children; and treat each child with respect and dignity.
  • Remain up-to-date on and follow emergency procedures and organization policies
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be licensed to operate a vehicle and have a clean driving record and proof of insurance
  • Must demonstrate the following personal attributes: honesty, trustworthiness, respect, and flexibility
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Acts 33 & 34 and FBI Clearances: Employment is contingent upon obtaining all three clearances
  • Knowledge of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems and community resources and networks
  • Experience working with elementary, middle, high school, and out-of-school-age youth, particularly youth in urban or underserved communities
  • Prior professional driving experience with references
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)

Compensation and Benefits:

$10.00-12.00/hour. Small Seeds does not offer benefits for part-time staff. Small Seeds does provide reimbursement for approved business-related expenses.
